About the Founder: Dhruv Syngol
Hi! My name is Dhruv Syngol, and I am currently a senior at Metea Valley High School in Aurora, IL. I have always had an interest in STEM ever since I was a student at the John C. Dunham STEM Partnership School, which is was located on the campus of Aurora University. As I am just a couple months away from embarking on a new path (college), even I still don't know what I want to pursue in my future.
After observing that so many of my friends and the people I meet share the same dilemma as me, I wanted to do something about it. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I sought to find answers to my problem by spending time on the internet and reading about different careers, and this prompted a significant idea: why not I talk to professionals in each field that I am interested in and engage the entire community while spreading interest in STEM?
My idea then prompted me to start Open Gears, an organization dedicated to educating our rising youth about various STEM careers along with sparking an interest in STEM for everyone. I hope that I can use my past experience of taking part in an integrated STEM society and listening to STEM professionals talk about their careers to propel students' interests, including me, in a variety of fields, ultimately helping them reach their future goals.
Although I am still learning the skills and concepts necessary to make a difference in our community, I hope that you will develop an interest in STEM by participating in our career talks and hands-on events and join us toward a common goal. Outside of running this initiative, I am a member of my school's Speech Team, Model UN, PE Leaders, and Principal's Advisory Board. I also enjoy traveling, golfing, biking, reading articles about business, and watching sports.

Why Call The Initiative Open Gears
Many middle school and high school students are undecided on their future intentions. Rather than trying to develop or pursue a passion blindly, without any knowledge, many students have an OPEN mindset; they are exploring different career paths and taking in as much knowledge as they can to make the best decision.
The part GEARS implies connectivity, just like how gears compose to form a functional mechanical object. These open-minded students can form connections with guest speakers at our webinars and learn new things that broaden students’ knowledge and impact their career choices.
This idea of building a network of gears between the students and speakers within our community is how the name Open Gears came to be.
